In 1993 Bagot Bell restored these bells for manual play, designing a new "pump handle" clavier (for local manufacture by others), cleaning and re-bushing the old clappers, and installing a "breeches" pull-wire system reflecting a traditional mechanism used in some European carillons. In 1995 Bagot Bell added an electrical system of chiming hammers (mounted external to the bells) and an "Apollo" (micro-processor-based) controller which commands automatic play of tunes, call-to-service ringing, and angelus. The two methods of play complement each other. Bellringers play the bells manually for weddings and other functions. |
