Rehanging of a heavy Irish bell in adapted cast-iron sideframes

A 760 kg O'Byrne bell in Melbourne, dated 1955, was to be restored for swing chiming by electric motor. Special adaptation of the original bearing housings was required in order that the bell swing true enough for motorized operation. Finely created self-aligning plain bearings were fitted into the embellished bearing housings that are characteristic of O'Byrne bells.
