CELEBRATING 30 YEARS IN 2007

Welcome to the Bagot Bell website!
Bagot Bell in Adelaide, founded 1977, is the longest established bell business in Australia. Its owner and technical director, Hervey Bagot MSc, is a practical scientist by training and brings to the work the principle that nothing but the best will do. This applies to the manufacture of some bell patterns in Adelaide (first tuned bell created 1981), the procurement of other bells from carefully selected European sources, the design and construction in Adelaide of most of the ancillary bell-frames and accessory parts, and the planning and execution of installation and maintenance work. Some recent works have employed beautifully crafted Australian jarrah for bell support (shown below). Other work completed in recent years may be viewed by clicking here. Original research as well as some Student research into current questions, and close contact with other practitioners in Europe and the United States of America, ensure that the output from Bagot Bell, Adelaide, is of the highest quality and conforms to world's best practice.

What is a bell?

A bell is a cast-bronze musical instrument with a long history spanning millennia. The Western European tower bell reached its first peak of development about the year 1300, and since that time has been applied in peals, chimes, and carillons around the world. Musical handbells from the same bronze material are also now much used.

Malmark Handbells--Pride in Craftsmanship

Bagot Bell is proud to be Australasian agent for Malmark!

In the hands of Malmark's craftspeople, raw bronze is transformed into fine musical instruments of beauty and purity of tone. In the factory every bell is inspected closely at every step, from casting through tuning, polishing, and assembly. When taken with the innovative approach that has always been applied in the design of Malmark bells and accessory parts, the result is a product that is the best available in the world today.

The Malmark aluminium handbells have been developed for the deeper notes in the range.
